Mayor of Chelmsford's Charity

The Cirdan Sailing Trust has had the honour of being the Mayor of Chelmsford's charity 2012/2013. The Worshipful the Mayor of Chelmsford, Councillor Christopher Kingsley has been a Cirdan Trust supporter for many years on a personal level and as Musical Director for the Lingwood Consort. Being the Mayor's Charity during his year of office has helped to raise our profile locally and bring in extra funds in support of our work.

Summer Breeze Sportive and Charity Bike Ride 2013

Our next Summer Breeze Sportive and Charity Bike Ride will be on Sunday 7 July 2013. Once again, at the request of returning riders, we intend keeping the routes more or less the same as in previous years and after the success of running the event from our base last year the start and finish for the ride will again be at Plantation Hall, Colchester Road, Heybridge, near Maldon.

The 85 mile long Sportive route starts at 9am and has an entry fee of £20. The shorter 25 mile route starts at 10am with an entry fee of £15. There is a reduced fee for riders collecting sponsorship – forms are available from the Cirdan office.

As in previous years, there will be a barbecue and refreshments back at base for riders and their supporters.

Club and casual riders are welcome but anyone aged under 16 must be accompanied by an adult and riders aged under 18 need parental consent. The route will be well marked but is on public roads which are mostly, but not all, through the countryside so participants should be competent cyclists.

We would prefer riders, especially for the Sportive, to register in advance via British Cycling but you are also welcome to turn up and register on the day.

Here's where the event starts:

'Sail Training Vessel of the Year'

Duet & Cirdan were awarded the trophy for 'Sail Training Vessel of the Year' at the 2013 ASTO conference.

The award was for the vessel which has best fulfilled the aims of the MCA and ASTO including good management with regard to seamanship and safety and also in providing the highest quality of Sail Training. The MCA (Maritime & Coastguard Agency) implement the government's maritime safety policy in the UK and are the industry's regulators, whilst ASTO (Association of Sail Training Organisations) is the UK sail training's umbrella body for developing safety standards and encouraging good practice.
